The Swift Building in the Houston Heights: A Century-Old Landmark Gets a Trendy Makeover

Get ready for a historic Houston Heights warehouse to become your new favorite hangout. The Swift Building is transforming from a 1909 cottonseed oil refinery into a chef-driven restaurant and creative office hub—complete with trail-facing patios and a rooftop cocktail lounge.

The Swift Building Redevelopment Project Highlights:

  • Prime Location: Sits on a 4.47-acre site along the Heights Hike-and-Bike Trail
  • Chef-Driven Restaurants: Five ground-floor dining spots, each with a patio overlooking the trail
  • Modern Design: Over 25,000 SF of restaurant and bar space, envisioned by Michael Hsu Office of Architecture

The Swift Building Project Timeline:

Construction started in late 2024 and is set to wrap up in 2025. Restaurants and retail tenants will likely begin moving in the following year, making the Swift Building a must-see destination in the Houston Heights.

Ashford Yard in West Houston: A Vibrant Gathering Place for Dining, Shopping, and Fun

Get ready for a mini CityCentre in the heart of West Houston! Ashford Yard is turning the former Schlumberger office site into a lively 12.7-acre mixed-use development, complete with green spaces, inviting restaurants, and curated retail options perfect for local families, friends, and coworkers.

About Ashford Yard in West Houston:

  • Mixed-Use Hub: Up to 90,000 SF of retail, dining, and entertainment—plus a future 350-unit apartment complex

Construction is set to begin in Spring 2025, with first tenants expected by Spring 2026—a promising transformation that underscores Memorial City’s ongoing evolution into a more walkable, community-focused district.

Main Street 2.0 in Downtown Houston: A Bold, Car-Free Future

Downtown Houston is gearing up for its biggest pedestrian transformation yet: Main Street 2.0. Soon, you’ll be able to stroll an 11-block, car-free corridor brimming with shops, restaurants, and public art—all in time to wow visitors at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

What to Expect from Main Street 2.0:

  • Expansive Pedestrian Zone: Spans Commerce to Rusk, extending to Allen’s Landing—a total of 11 blocks
  • Walk, Eat, Shop: Restaurants and bars can extend outdoor seating, creating a vibrant, day-to-night scene
  • Urban Connectivity: Easy access to the Metro Red Line, plus well-designed cross-street traffic flows for safety

Construction is slated to start in 2025 and wrap up before the 2026 World Cup, promising Houstonians a fresh, accessible downtown experience at just the right time.

As someone whose family has called this city home for four generations, I’m incredibly proud to see three of my favorite Houston neighborhoods—the Heights, Memorial City, and the Energy Corridor—transform into destinations that balance history, community, and modern innovation.
